DAY 1

San José

San Jose is the capital city of Costa Rica and is in the Central Valley, in the center of the country. In this area, you will find more than half of the country’s population, along with the central government offices, shopping areas, hotels and convention, and congress centers.

Besides, it is the center of Costa Rican culture and history, uniting in a few blocks, more than ten museums of pre-Columbian contemporary art, jade, and gold, numismatics and history. Also, squares, numerous events, and festivals of theater, music and dance and a great gastronomic offer.

It’s an almost mandatory start to a vacation that focuses on Costa Rica’s exuberant nature, not only because you’ll be able to experience a bit of Costa Rican urban culture, but also because you’ll have the opportunity if your flight doesn’t arrive too late to buy what you forgot to pack.

All surprising and surrounded by an ecosystem that contains many species of birds, mammals, reptiles, and insects of all types and species.

Known as the Costa Rican Amazon, Tortuguero never disappoints true nature lovers.

This day you will be picked up very early to take Highway #32 that goes across the Braulio Carrillo National Park, a reserve that will impact you for its size, landscapes, numerous waterfalls and diversity of climates that peaks the Central Volcanic Mountain Range.

Leaving the hotel with your guide and by boat, you will enter the Tortuguero National Park. Slowly you will slide through the calm waters of the canals, which will gradually narrow. Your guide and boatman will show you the different animals, some totally mimicked in the darkness of the jungle.

Usually, a myriad of animals will be on the water’s edge: Monkeys, sloths, herons and egrets of different shapes and colors, huge iguanas, and emerald basilisks.

But even in the rare days when the fauna is hidden due to rain, in this tour, we recommend that you have your senses alert because this is an experience of pure, raw, and impressive nature.

Giant trees covered with vines up to their roots, the mixed sounds of hundreds of birds, insects, and frogs, aromas of all kinds, and all the shades of green you can imagine.

After this unforgettable experience, you will return to the hotel, where you will be able to spend the rest of the day exploring its gardens, with a cocktail in the swimming pool or in one of the optional excursions that the hotel offers as walks, kayak rides or artisan fishing.

From July to September, the Tortuguero National Park is home to the vital nesting of green sea turtles, which arrive every night to lay their eggs on the warm sands. If your vacation coincides with this time of year, we recommend that you organize a tour to see this phenomenon of nature. It has an additional cost and can only be booked already in the area of Tortuguero.

Schedules and order of activities are defined by the guide the first day depending on weather conditions and animal behavior.

DAY 4

This is a traveling day!

We recommend you get up early to enjoy the last moments in the charming Tortuguero. A walk through the gardens, or just sitting in front of the room to watch the frenetic jungle activity after sunrise prepares you for your next destination: Arenal Volcano.

By mid-morning, you will be on the boat that will take you back to La Pavona. At the pier, the bus will be waiting to take you to the restaurant in Guápiles where after a delicious lunch you will enjoy the shared transport that will take you to the area of Arenal Volcano.

The route to Arenal Volcano is very picturesque and prosperous, full of plantations of all kinds: pineapple, papaya, oranges, ornamentals, banana, and hearts of palm.

You will also pass through small villages crossing landscapes that will surprise you with their extraordinary variety.

A day trip in Costa Rica is a feast for the senses, enjoy it.

Monteverde

Famous for its cloud forests and Monteverde Reserve, this region protects more than six different life zones in approximately 26,000 hectares (64,000 acres). And it has become one of the obligatory destinations to appreciate the rich Central American nature.

With multiple activities and a landscape that is often foggy, the Monteverde area will give your senses the magic of nature in a forest that invites you to imagine goblins and fairies.

The area, which began as a Quaker community, went from being a region of dairy and cheese production to a thriving, diverse and successful tourist destination where hotels, restaurants and all sorts of activities abound, making sure you won’t get bored.

Leaving the Monteverde region, its clouds, forests and frequent drizzle and fresh air, you will descend again to the coastal plains, to tour areas that will impress you with their extraordinary diversity.

They have fertile soils, and in them, you will contemplate multiple plantations, cattle pastures, rain forests and a significant number of rivers in which you will be able to observe the legendary American Crocodile in its habitat.
