You’ll be staying in León and have the opportunity to visit the indigenous community of Sutiava and see their famous traditional sawdust rugs.
Breakfast. Early in the morning, your guide will take you on a private tour of León, one of the most ancient cities in the Americas. León was the capital of Nicaragua, and is still considered the intellectual capital. Here you’ll be able to see the major churches, and visit the indigenous community of Sutiava to see their traditional, multi-colored rugs made from sawdust. You’ll also visit the largest cathedral in Central America, declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO, located in the central plaza. You’ll see the birth house of Rubén Darío, the Ortiz Guardián art gallery, and the El Convento hotel with its colonial architecture. You’ll also take a walking tour to see some of the city’s historic murals and understand León’s role in the social, economic and political development of Nicaragua. Check out and return to the hotel.
