If you want to know what to see in Corcovado, at Asuaire Travel we can advise you. We’ve been working with people travelling to Corcovado in Costa Rica or to any other part of Central America for many years. In fact, our speciality is precisely to advise on trips to Costa Rica and those destinations which offer tourist attractions and natural landscapes such as those in this protected wildlife park. We can plan your experience and explain things like getting to Corcovado by public transport or what you should put in your backpack to fully enjoy your day.
Travelling to Costa Rica is increasingly desirable for a large number of tourists. Not only because of the attraction of its sea waters, but because of the landscapes offered by its mountains and the large number of natural parks the country has. In fact, these parks are well-protected, numerous and really extensive. In spite of the high population the country currently has, its centres are concentrated and there are still large natural reserves where flora and fauna can live freely and with hardly any human interference.
It’s for this reason that governments are responsible for protecting natural areas and providing them with the necessary restrictions to continue being as natural and wild as they have been conserved so far. In addition, these types of conservation studies also allow sections to be established within each natural park. In Corcovado National Park there are six sectors:
– Sirena Sector
– La Leona Sector
– San Pedrillo Sector
– Los Patos Sector
– Los Planes Sector
– El Tigre Sector
Visiting hours in the park are also restricted, but they are very long. Open every day from 7 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon. In October, the Sirena area is closed to visitors, but you can take advantage of the rest of the year to visit and even to stay overnight. Services include lodging, wooden lockers placed in the middle of the forest which can be rented, and also you can camp if you bring a tent.
Before travelling to Costa Rica and, above all, before visiting this natural park, you should know more about its climate. It’s important to know when packing your bag that if you’re going to visit this park, you have to bear in mind it’s a very humid place and one where rainfall is abundant throughout the year. Also, if you want to camp, it’s essential to bear in mind that you need to take your own tent.
Planning your visit to this natural park will help you enjoy much more of its main tourist attractions. One of the most important annual events happens in La Leona, where the turtles lay their eggs and their births can be observed. After this, the main activities that can be done in the midst of nature in this natural park are walking, through different hiking trails:
– Sirena: there are two local trails that add up to a total of 20 km. On your way, you can enjoy the natural pool of the Claro River, enjoy the views of the mouth of the Sirena River that gives name to the route or observe bull sharks and crocodiles when it’s high tide.
– El Tigre: in this area you can do more difficult hiking trails, which are used by physically fit people. Despite its complexity, it’s only 7 km, but you can see the park from the highest viewpoints which you can find along the way.
– Los Patos: through the local trails of this sector you can observe the Rincon River, as well as its waterfall and the forests that grow around it, which are part of the Guaymí Indigenous Reserve.
If you have time, ideally stay a total of three days in the natural park with your own tent. Thus, you can do the Los Patos, Sirena and La Leona routes, which are the main ones which will give you the maximum experiences that this natural park affords you. If you don’t have enough time, you can choose one of the routes to do in one day, going back to sleep at your hotel or the place where you stay once the park’s closing time comes. If you already know what to see in Corcovado, you just need to prepare your suitcase.
