The Rio Pacuare is a 108-kilometer long river, renowned as one of the best watercourses for rafting worldwide. Bordering the mighty Talamanca Mountain Range, the Pacuare passes through some virgin rainforests only seen from the river and the Cabecar indigenous reserve.
You will be rafting for 19 miles (30 Km) in the Caribbean area and on III and IV class rapids.
You will depart San José, very early in the morning on a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle that will take you to the Rios Tropicales Operations Center, where you will enjoy a delicious breakfast surrounded by tropical gardens.
Afterward, you will have time to change and get ready to go rafting.
You will hop back in the transportation to go to the edge of the river where your professional river guides will give you a paddle, a helmet, and a life vest.
You will also have a short but essential briefing where they will talk, first, about the safety procedures, as well as some of the paddling tips and commandos.
You will be assigned a raft and a group, and off you go!
You will be paddling into the core of the Costa Rican rainforests. With waterfalls right on the river and virgin forests on both sides, the Pacuare might be one of the most beautiful rafting rivers in the World.
You will start with softer rapids to allow you to get used to the sensations that this river gives you. To, afterwards, get to the rapids to start the real fun!
Halfway down the Pacuare river, you will stop at the Rios Tropicales Lodge, an award winner sustainable lodge amid a 2400 acres private reserve.
Here you will enjoy a well-deserved break, stretch legs, and have some fresh fruits.
You will enjoy rapids known as the “Double Drop,” “Pinball,” and “Fer de Lance” and take a glimpse at the magnificent 150-feet Huacas Waterfall falling right on the river.
Closer to the end, the Pacuare will give you chances to simply get off the raft and float slowly, closed eyes, sun on the face.
In these mild areas, you may also search for the abundant wildlife in the rainforests around. You may glimpse myriads of colorful birds, monkeys, sloths, and even on occasion, a tayra, coatimundis, or, when lucky, a big cat or a tapir.
At the end of this exciting trip, you’ll go back to the Rios Tropicales Operations Center for a good shower, change clothes, and tasty hot lunch.
Following, you will start your trip back to San Jose, appreciating stunning views on the way. This extraordinary tour will be the highlight of your vacation in Costa Rica!
