1. Playa Grande

Playa Grande true to its name, this immense white sand beach is famous for its incredible sunsets, excellent Costa Rica surf, and for being a major turtle-nesting spot for a variety of sea turtles.

Tranquil Playa Grande is also a quick drive from the town of Tamarindo, one of Guanacaste’s centers of commerce, so you have equally easy access to the adventure and the relaxation you need.

2. Playa San Juanillo

This hidden gem features sand composed of finely ground seashells, and an array of colorful fish swimming in crystal clear turquoise water, which makes it the perfect spot for snorkeling.

San Juanillo also has a gorgeous lookout point from where you can see the whole beach, and is close to Nosara, a mecca for surfers and yoga enthusiasts, and also Ostional, a well-known turtle spawning beach.

3. Playa Carrillo

Playa Carrillo is lined with thousands of beautiful palm trees, and is a perfect place to rest in the shade while drinking fresh coconut water right off the trees.

4. Playa Dantita

Not to be confused with neighboring Playa Danta, Dantita lies at the end of a short hike along the mountainside.  Upon arrival, you’ll be able to enjoy the quiet tranquility of its white sand and clear, still waters; nature’s swimming pool.

5. Playa Minas

This small, soft-sand beach is framed by rocks of an intense purple shade, and the beach’s challenging access means it is almost always empty.  Pack up your 4×4 vehicle and enjoy the privacy of Playa Minas!
