The Tortuga Island Cruise travels through the Gulf of Nicoya to the Southern tip of the peninsula, passing by several isles with myriads of aquatic birds and the legendary San Lucas, where the ruin of an old and infamous prison still exists.
Tortuga Island has 120 hectares (296 acres), and the gorgeous 500-meter (1640-feet) beach that boasts on the blue flag certification.
The Tortuga Island Cruise starts early in the morning when your guide and transportation pick you up to take you on Route 27 to the Port of Puntarenas.
On the way, you will enjoy a snack while your tour guide explains the tour and some of the regions and sightings on the road.
As you arrive at the pier in Puntarenas, you will board your boat for the trip. It might be an expansive catamaran or a comfortable yacht.
On the way, your captain will share information about the nearby islands, and the Gulf of Nicoya as well as about Isla Tortuga and the twin sister Tolinga Island. He will point out the different islands and highlights of the trip.
You will also enjoy live music on board.
You may change clothes on the pier before getting on board or the boat.
The friendly crew will show you the different areas of the beach and the island, and from this point, you can enjoy five hours to lay on a beach lounge chair, swim in the warm waters, snorkel, kayak, do stand up paddle or rent a jet ski.
A family that watches after the island will offer you the different possible activities at a separate cost.
At midday, you will enjoy a hot fresh lunch made on the island by the crew. If you are vegetarian or need a special diet, please advise when reserving the tour.
After 5 hours of enjoying paradise, you will be ready to go back to the boat.
On the way back to Puntarenas, prepare for a fantastic sunset.
Even if, as we all know, sunsets in the tropics happen very fast, at this time of day, with the water movements and the breathtaking colors of the sky, it’s like time stops.
And this moment in the twilight while on board of a great boat might quickly become the highlight of your trip.
