The Rainforest Adventure 3 in 1, starts as you leave your hotel and take the road that will take you to the Sarapiqui River.
On route, you will pass through one of the most impressive rainforests of Costa Rica: The Braulio Carrillo National Park.
The drive on this route and on clear days is breathtaking. With several ecosystems and climates, this area will show you deep gorges, high mountains, and several waterfalls – Mostly all in the distance, although some of them fall right on the side of the road-.
You will notice how the climate changes and with it the landscapes.
As you pass to the other side of the Central Volcanic Mountain range, you will see a prosperous region with incredible agricultural diversity.
You will pass by cattle pastures, heart of palm and tropical fruits plantations among others, until you arrive in Puerto Viejo, a small town that in ancient times used to be the exit to the Caribbean for the people of the Central Valley.
In Puerto Viejo, you will find a small pier where a comfortable boat will be waiting to take you on a trip downriver to appreciate the lavish environment near the Sarapiqui.
You will be seated comfortably on a covered boat with an engine to minimize the noise and the impact on the environment.
As your boat rides down the river, your skipper and your tour guide will be showing you some of the wildlife that gathers on the edge of this calm river.
You may be able to see crocodiles and caimans on the sandbanks at the edge, iguanas up on the trees, groups of howler or white-faced capuchin monkeys and several aquatic birds such as blue herons, white egrets and dozens of small colorful species like tanagers, oropendolas, and kingfishers.
Your tour guide will tell you a bit of their natural history and interactions.
And as you float downriver, the leisure feeling will invade your mind and let you relax in the beautiful green landscape.
You will come back to the pier in Puerto Viejo where transportation will be waiting to take you to the second stop of your Rainforest Adventure 3 in 1: the Selva Verde ecolodge and rainforest.
This hotel on the side of the river is immersed in primary and secondary rainforests.
Enjoy a buffet lunch at a restaurant sitting on the side of the river and delight in the view and sounds of the nearby forests.
When you finish your meal, your tour guide will take you on a walk by the lodge trails.
The exuberant environment is full of life, tiny and bright poison dart frogs, birds like toucans and aracaris and a fantastic array of plants and trees will give you a glimpse of the abundance of the tropical rainforest.
As you finish your walk in the Selva Verde pathways, you will come back to your bus and ride on the same route back to the city.
On the side of the Braulio Carrillo National Park and back on route 32, you will stop at the third and last of the three adventures of the day; The Rain Forest Aerial Tram
This is a private reserve of 475-hectares (1,200-acres) that is positioned as a buffer zone that separates farming lands from the vibrant ecosystem of the Braulio Carrillo National Park.
Your bus will leave you at the entrance of the park, and you will go to the transportation that will take you for around ten minutes into the forest.
You will be surprised to find, within the wilderness, a restaurant, a souvenir store, and the impressive aerial tram station. Here you will board a gondola for six passengers that will take you with a naturalist guide on an hour and twenty minutes ride on the highest part of the forest.
You will relax in the slow movement while the aerial views will take your breath away, seeing the rainforest from a perspective as you’ve never seen before.
After this magical ride, you will get back on your bus that will drive you to the hotel.
