You will begin this tour at the Adventure Center in the Hacienda Guachipelin, one of the main cultural and historical representatives of the Guanacaste province.
Hacienda Guachipelín is very large, with 3,460 acres (1,400 hectares), it has reserved tropical dry forests, hot springs, wildlife and several rivers that form waterfalls, ponds, and rapids class II and IV perfect for tubing.
And it is the ideal site to enjoy horseback riding!
You will combine the lush forests of Rincon de la Vieja with the lifestyle of the ranchers of Guanacaste.
The horses that are usually used for this tour are easy to ride, know the route and are very well treated.
If you like a horse a bit more active because you are an experienced rider, please let us know at the time of reservation.
You will begin the tour at the horses’ corral, where your certified tour guides will give you safety briefing with all the needed instructions and your helmet.
From the Hacienda you will go riding to the entrance of the Rincon de La Vieja National Park.
You will come down from your horse and begin a hike in the fantastic Las Pailas trail.
The volcano shows off in this trail with an area filled with steaming cracks, small mud volcanoes, and boiling ponds.
This trail commences in an area of dry tropical forest with a small waterfall and giant trees. Look out for potential sightings of wildlife. In this park, there are howler, spider and white-faced monkeys, two and three-toed sloths, agoutis, coatimundis, and over 350 species of birds.
As you walk in, you will discover a dark green rainforest, with big trees and weird-looking roots. And, every now and then, the trail divides to allow you to see the different manifestations of volcanic power.
Las Pailas is 2.5 miles (3.5 kilometers) long and you will witness (Especially in the dry season) a rare coincidence, two very distinct types of the tropical forest combined, from the luscious and mysterious montane forest to the rare tropical dry forest.
