Activities in Guanacaste
Guanacaste is a wonderful province that can provide plans for all ages and tastes. It’s nice to spend a day on your trip getting in touch with nature by doing outdoor activities. However, it’s also nice to visit some iconic places.
Risk-free activities
If you travel with people with limited mobility, maybe you can spend a whole day on an trip to Granada and the Masaya National Park. During the visit, you’ll cross the border with Nicaragua and you’ll be visiting the oldest city in Costa Rica. You can also spend a whole day visiting the Arenal volcano and going to the nearby hot springs, as they are very relaxing and it’s one of the main tourist attractions in the area. Another relaxing day could be visiting the Llanos de Cortés waterfalls, navigating the Bebedero river or shopping in Liberia.
Adventure activities
If, in addition to getting to know Costa Rica, you want to accumulate new experiences with outdoor adventure sports, you can choose from some of these recommendations. Ideally, you should book a full day for each one, so that you can really delve into the nature you are walking through, enjoy the scenery, take advantage to relax, etc.:
– Rafting on the Tenorio River: so much fun for young couples or families with children.
– Excursion to Palo Verde National Park: ideal to go with children to explore this area, see crocodiles and take a boat ride.
– Hiking route through the Rincon de la Vieja National Park: ideal for all ages, as well as being a good way to delve into nature in the rivers and tropical forest of Costa Rica.
– Adventure Tour in Buena Vista: a unique experience for a day in the rainforest doing risky activities in a controlled way, like sliding down giant slides, a very long zip line, or horseback riding.
Activities in Tortuguero
Some of the activities you can do in Tortuguero are similar to those you can do in Guanacaste. However, the landscape is different, so you don’t have to refrain from doing the same activity, as the experience will be very different.
For example, at the Poás volcano you won’t be able to go to hot springs, but you’ll visit a large artistic centre and you can see large coffee plantations. In the same way, whitewater river rafting will be a different adventure which, energising you with adrenaline on this multi-adventure experience, will offer you new landscapes of this other area of Costa Rica.
But there are also other activities that you can only do here, such as visiting the Tortuguero National Park. This park offers a great quantity and variety of wild fauna and flora of different types, native and very well conserved. It’s a very important destination for ecotourism, which is becoming more important in Costa Rica. More and more tourists want to practice responsible and sustainable tourism and look for natural destinations, where they can also get away from the hustle and bustle of big cities.
If you like nature, Manuel Antonio National Park can also give you an unforgettable day. Here, you’ll find everything you need to relax with your partner, friends or family. It’s an ideal destination, full of wildlife, unspoilt white sandy beaches and calm waters. You can take advantage of small hiking trails, bird watching, take a catamaran for a ride on the sea, enjoy typical food and drink overlooking the water and sunbathe using sun protection.
